Directory Submission is Very Effective
Over the past year or so, I've noticed that directories really can deliver high-quality backlinks to your site that can dramatically improve your search engine rankings in Google specifically, and drastically increase your traffic over a set course of time (usually the time it takes for a toolbar PageRank update).
I used to hire and outsource SEO companies and self-proclaimed "gurus" to manually submit my site(s) to directories for me, but never received the results that I wanted, until I decided to do it myself.
I found this program application that pretty-much automates and expedites the manual directory submission process for you, and seriously, it has worked WONDERS for me.
It's not too time-extensive either, because the program automatically updates itself with new quality web directories, automatically fills in the data that you originally input for your URLs, titles, and descriptions, supports an unlimited number of sites and projects, and will create an Excel report of your submission project once you are finished.
One of my sites, in which I used this tool about a year ago for it, went from receiving about 200 unique visitors per day, to 1000 unique visitors per day within 4 months after using this tool - no joke. And YES, that traffic did convert, and the only way I marketed the site was via link building using this application.
