Bound search engines: can or not?
Since some years blooming on the canvas of the "bound" so-called search engines. What is their economic model? Is their gait ethical? What think the associations of it? Working
While using these sites for your research (rather than to go on google, for example), you contribute to help some associations thanks to the display of pubs on the pages of welcome. For every thrown request, some cents of euros are reverted therefore (sometimes, these are the planted trees). As for the results of your research, these are the same that google, that is used massively by these sites to do them. In general, a multitude of projects is proposed touch to the lasting development and solidarity.
Who hides behind?
Most motors are managed by enterprises that finance themselves thanks to the advertisements displayed on their site: only a percentage (more or less weak according to the cases) is reverted to the projects. Thus, the main challengers in France are the HooSeeks pioneer (LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY to the capital of 47.000 euros based to Neuilly-On-Seine) and Veosearch (SIEVE to the capital of 40.000 euros situated in the 16th Parisian precinct). Other sites are managed by associations, as Doona, animate exclusively by volunteers, who revert the entirety of the gains generated.

A thing is certain: between to look for on google with 0 cents for the associative and to look for thanks to google while generating the reverted gains, the second solution is always more interesting for the bound projects. But such sites don't offer the final that very few services (it is the partner google that makes the essential of the job, associated to an advertising state control with not always targeted pubs). In other words, the requests of the internauts offer on a tray of money 50% of the business number to the leaders. If I don't have anything against this real financial manna, seen the few of service returned (once the thrown machine, work behind is limited very), I hurt with the idea that this type of economic model either indeed "ethical."
Visibly, I am not the only one: International handicap, Physicians without borders and Greenpeace asked to be withdrawn from the listings of HooSeek thus, all as Engineers Without Border that refused the invitation of Veosearch and get ready to ask for his/her/its withdrawal of Hooseek.
Interviewed in Politis, Guillaume Heintz, directing Veosearch, affirms that its model traces itself on the "Charity Business" Anglo-Saxons. This concept applies above all to the associations that establish some partnerships with enterprises (as Lafarge and WWF). The concerned enterprises revert a part of their come back in return for the use of a logo or an accreditation... and a look of the NGO on their activities. In the case of Veosearch, everybody is certainly a winner, but the picture of the associations is used without there is for as much the least work collaboratif.
To the passage, on HooSeek, it is even possible to make a research via google, whereas this last made not goner of the program (therefore, non posted gains: more of info here). Only a '. ' blocked minuscule recalls it...
And the winner is...
Doona! It is the only associative site enlivened by volunteers, with his/her/its on line available statutes, displaying a total transparency. Created in 2006 by four students, the site uses the technology of the Exalead search engine gracefully (probably the best alternative in Google) and redistribute the totality of the gains to an association elected by the internauts. The advertisement is managed by Goodaction (an associative advertising state control). The is collected remain for the meantime modest (1.000 euros since the launching). But after my small investigation, I am henceforth ready to make some research regularly on this site... and only on that one. Question of principle.
The Veosearch site has the merit to raise quite a lot of funds... but I find that he plays much too much on the bound marketing (he doesn't bring any additional service, 50% of the gains are put merely of side). Me préfèrerais from afar that the internauts turn toward the "Doona" solution that will be able to, so, to store more gains.
