From Windows 95 or 98, it is possible to you to make operate your ASP in local before putting them on line on the distant server. It requires some simple previous manipulations and without risk, but that it is necessary to really execute in the indicated below order.

Under Windows 98

1. Install the Personal Web Server 4.0, that you will find in the Add-Ons file / Pws of the CD-ROM Windows 98. From this file, execute SETUP.EXE. Answer to all questions while choosing the proposed by default options. Once the finished installation, the system will ask you to start again your computer: make it.

2. If you have FrontPage, it is recommended to reinstall it after the installation of the Personal Web Server 4.0. not to choose to install the Server Personnel FrontPage. Start again your computer again, and throw FrontPage. He/it will determine your server's name, that will generally be the name of your machine automatically.

3. If you don't have FrontPage, there is not a manipulation equivalent to the point 2 to do.

4. You must now declare a source of ODBC data, so that the interfa?age of your ASP pages with your data bases can make itself. For it, go in the Menu to Start / Parameters / Panel of Configuration. Click on ODBC (or ODBC 32 bits, or Sources of ODBC data). Click then on the tab DSN System, then on to Add. Choose pilot's type (generally Microsoft Access Driver), and click on to Finish. Give a name in your source of data, while avoiding the accents, the signs and the spaces. Click then on to Select, browse the indexes and double click on your Access file (extension *. MDB). Validate the creation while clicking successively on OK on all windows. There are you ready to use ASP and ODBC.

Under Windows 95

The working of this installation is similar to the one done under Windows 98, except with regard to the point 1. You must download Winsock2 (964 Kos) and to install it while executing W95ws2setup.exe. Then, it is necessary for you to download the Personal Web Server 4 (about 22 Mb), and to install it according to the procedure described to the point 1 of the Windows 98 chapter. The rest of the installation is strictly identical.
